Peacefully, with family by his side at PeopleCare Meaford Long Term Care on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 in his 89th year. Bill, cherished husband of Mary Jane (nee Arbour). Loving father of Janie and her husband Michael Clark, and Becky and her husband Scott Librock. Proud Pa of Brad (Ashleigh), and Madeline. Dear brother of Mary and her husband Randy Jones, and Penny and her late husband John Jensen. Predeceased by his parents William Quinlan and Dorothy (nee Smith), sister Susanne Laurin, and brother John Quinlan.
Bill taught for 30 years most of which was at GBSS in Meaford. Bill was “firm but fair” as a teacher and many students had the upmost respect for him. Bill was Head of the physical education department, but also taught geography and towards the end of his career was in charge of the Co-op program.
Bill was a man of many talents and interests. He was a multi sport athlete that included hockey, baseball, basketball, wrestling and track and field. A respected basketball coach at GBSS, Bill touched many lives through sports.
His love for horses and knowledge was passed on to Janie and Becky. Bill owned, showed, trained, and traded many horses.
Bill loved to travel and visited many countries in his lifetime. He was also very abreast on current events across Canada and the globe.
Private family arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Family Funeral Home, 1 – 900 10th Street West, Owen Sound, 519-376-3710 with interment at Lakeview Cemetery, Midland.
In lieu of flowers donations are appreciated to the Meaford Hospital Foundation.
