Rose Anne Legate

Rose Anne Legate (née Smith) passed away peacefully at Lee Manor on May 20, 2025, surrounded by her family, at the age of 82.
Born August 25, 1942, in Owen Sound, she spent much of her childhood in Tara, Ontario, before settling in Owen Sound with her late husband, Calvin Legate.
Rose Anne is survived by her children, William (Leah) and Jennifer (Robert Mansfield), and her grandchildren, Claire and Ella Legate; Jasmine, Levi, Jack, and Ezra Mansfield. She is also survived by her siblings, Bill Smith (Sandy), Betsy Kennedy (Roger), Barry Smith (Joy), Barbara Brough (the late Gord), and Ron Smith (Wendy). Rose Anne is predeceased by her brother, Robert Smith (Mildred). She was a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
The family is especially grateful to Betsy for her dedicated care and support over the years.
She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed watching action movies and crime series, redecorating her home—often enlisting family and friends to help move furniture—and dancing with Calvin. After a stroke at age 56 left her right side paralyzed, Rose Anne showed remarkable resilience and determination, never letting it slow her down.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the nursing and PSW staff at Lee Manor for their exceptional care.
A memorial service to celebrate Rose Anne’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at 11a.m., with visitation one hour prior with David Fries officiating. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery followed by a reception at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.
