It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Margaret Jean MacArthur at Chapman House on May 22, 2025, in her 98th year. Jean was predeceased by her husband, James Duncan MacArthur, on November 28, 2020. They were married for 72 years.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Brent (Mary Jane), Barbara Murphy (Jim, deceased), Eugene (Rosemary), and Lisa Given (Dan). Proud grandmother of Heather (Jack), Scott (Courtney), Paige (Grant), and Andrew (Bridget). Loving great grandmother of Addie, Ben, Elsie, Jaxon, Tristan, James, Dante, Sofie, Isabella, Madeline and Arlo.
Predeceased by her parents Peter and Anne (Jacques) McGregor, brothers Arnold, Alvin, John, Howard and Harvey, and by her sisters Etta, Helen and Norma.
After attending OSCVI, Jean went to Northern Business College in Owen Sound where she met her future husband, Jim. Jean worked in the lab at the MacKinnon Phillips Hospital in Owen Sound for many years. She was a long-time member of the IODE, as well as a dedicated member and volunteer at Central Westside United Church for many years.
Jean was a kind and caring woman who enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and cribbage. She also looked forward to spending time in her garden and spending time with family and friends. Jean and Jim travelled to Austria, Germany and many parts of Canada and the United States.
A funeral service to celebrate Jean’s life will be held at Brian Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. A reception will immediately follow the service. Interment to take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Owen Sound.
