It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved and fiercely independent mom at Collingwood General & Marine Hospital on June 9, 2025 after living at the Gardens of Wasaga the past year. Lois Joyce Steadman born June 5, 1931 in Aurora was in her 95th year. Wife of the late Garfield Bishop, she was the second of seven children being the eldest daughter to William and Myra (nee Joyce) Steadman.
Mom loved the Lord and was not afraid to share her belief showing compassion, gratefulness and offering practical help along the way. Mornings generally started with a devotion and time in prayer. She was a talented seamstress and loved gardening, classical music, handiwork, crafts, knitting and puzzles which she was doing right to the end. She worked at a myriad of jobs along the way graduating at 50 years of age from Georgian College Business Accounting working as a bookkeeper for Avis Pharmacy, as well as getting her driver’s license at 50, aside from raising 8 children.
Surviving children are John (Dianne), Debbie, David (Michele), Sue, Ed (Leona), Ron (Tina) and Wanda. Proud grandmother of Jason, Greg, Zachary, Leah, Ben, Mark, Mike, Scott, Charlotte, April, Brandon, Lauren and Kaleigh. Loving great-grandmother of Kiran, Abney, Holden, Arthur, Delilah, Rebecca, Alice, Brody, Mason, Rylee, Adah and Sorayah. Dear sister to Olive, Nancy and Danny. Lois will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Predeceased by parents William and Myra (Joyce) Steadman, her son Rick and wife Brenda, sisters Ruth Dafoe, Julie Stephens, and Bill Steadman (she fondly called Billy).
Visitation will be held Thursday June 12th from 6-8 p.m. at the McMillan & Jack Funeral Home, 291 Main Street East, Dundalk. A funeral service to celebrate mom’s life will be held at Dundalk Wesleyan Church Friday June 13, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. with interment to take place at Bethel Cemetery followed by a reception back at the Wesleyan Church.
As expressions of sympathy memorial donations to C41 Canada, a Christian organization she supported. https://www.c41.ca would be appreciated.
