Peacefully at Lee Manor in Owen Sound on Saturday, September 26th in her 95th year. Loving wife of the late Gordon. Treasured Mother of the late Robert, Don (the late Cindy) and Allan (Dianna). Grandmother of Heather, Matthew (Michelle), Michael (Stephanie), Adam, Christopher, Thomas, Megan and Jarrett. Great-grandmother of four. Sister of John Woodhouse (the late Doreen) and survived by her sisters-in-law Nettie, Vivian and Helen.

Predeceased by her parents, Wesley and Jessie and siblings; Harvey (Edith), Bruce, Herb, Allan (Mary Catherine), Marjorie (Thomas), Ken and David (Janet) and her much loved Hargrave brother and sisters-in- law. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces and nephews.

Laura grew up in the Kimberley and Heathcote area alongside her 8 siblings. Attending the Union One Room Schoolhouse, and later, Thornbury Highschool for her post-secondary education. She was a proud graduate of the 1953 class of nursing students at General and Marine Hospital in Collingwood and went on to dedicate 30 years serving as a charge nurse at the Markdale Hospital. Nursing was a role she took very seriously, dedicating time to mentor and help other nurses until she retired in 1996. When she wasn’t nursing, she loved to be at home, caring for her sons, helping out on the farm, knitting, gardening or rug hooking.

Laura was hardworking and encouraging, with a splash of humour and a do it right and do it well kind of attitude. She loved unconditionally, never judged anyone and was so accepting. Laura was always in your corner, cheering you on and showing up to support your efforts. She loved you as you are, something that will stay imprinted in the lives and hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 1st from 6pm-8pm at Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception Ltd., 1 Highland Drive Flesherton and again at 10am on Friday, October 2nd, followed by the funeral service at 11am. All are invited to process to Maxwell Cemetery for the interment, followed by a luncheon at the Maxwell Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Markdale Hospital would be greatly appreciated.
