Kathy Bumstead, née Adams, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2025, at the age of 87.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Russ; remembered by her children, Lori (Alan) and Rendell (Chantal); her grandchildren, Mitchell, Solène and Amélie; and her great-grandchildren, Charlie and Gavin.
Kathy is survived by her brother Carl (Mary) Adams of Meaford, and will be fondly remembered by her brother Ray’s partner, Norma Dunlop, and by the extended Bumstead family. She was a favourite aunt to many nieces, nephews and their families.
Predeceased by her parents, Clara (née Almond) and Burgess Adams and by her siblings; Doris (Edwin) Hutchinson, Marjorie (James) Nesbitt, Leslie (Betty) Adams, Melbourne (Lenore) Adams, Wilford ‘Bill’ (Mary) Adams, Jean (Bob) Henning, Eleanor (Reg) Conley, Betty (Ivan) Tomlinson, Ray (Helen) Adams, and Helen Bowins.
Kathryn was the tenth child born of twelve children. She spent most of her working career at National Trust/Scotiabank and eventually served as secretary at Meaford United Church through to her retirement.
She had a busy married life with Russ living on a farm, making it look easy juggling a career and motherhood. In 1984, they built their new home, which became known as The Ponderosa – a popular spot for catered parties and weddings surrounded by flowers and fruits and vegetables they grew themselves. Grandchildren could always count on copious amounts of berries, with plenty for Kathy to sell, thanks to all her efforts. Kathy and Russ were both well known in the community, and you could always count on them to take the time for a friendly chat.
Kathy volunteered for numerous committees, including her favourite, the Pastoral Care Team for visiting the sick and shut-ins. Family was very important to her, and she looked forward to every opportunity to prepare and enjoy one of her favourite recipes with them. She also really enjoyed participating in the Dinner Club with Russ, as well as fun evenings at Rotary Club dinners.
She was a proud Grandma and Nana, and loved to share all of her grandchildren’s achievements, but most of all, she cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.
Due to heating issues and the Meaford United Church, Knox Presbyterian Church has generously allowed the use of their chapel for Kathryn’s service and reception. This is greatly appreciated.
Visitation take place on Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at Ferguson Funeral Home in Meaford from 4 until 7 p.m. A funeral service will be conducted at Knox Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow. A private service of committal and interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery in Meaford.
As your expression of sympathy, donations to the Meaford United Church (Cheques Only Please) or the Meaford Hospital Foundation would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements have been entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca
