Karen passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 with her daughters by her side in her 79th year.
Born in England on November 6, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Hartley and Ailsa (nee Mapley) Jones.
Karen was predeceased by her beloved husband David Hammond.
She was the caring mother of Kelly Hammond Mackey (Mike) and Jennifer Hammond.
Proud Nanny to Blair and Hunter Mackey, Nana to Justice and Elijhah Hammond-Franco, and Grand Nan to Parabellum.
Much loved sister-in-law of Margaret Kelly, Jim Hammond (Sandra), Bonnie Hammond, Gary Hawes, and predeceased by brother John Jones, brother-in-law Mike Hammond and sister-in-law Libby Hawes.
Karen will be remembered fondly by her cousins Irene Webster and Hartley Jones (Diane) and by many other cousins, nieces and nephews.
Karen and Dave were a wonderful team and enjoyed life together. She was a behind the scenes helper and would do whatever she could to support her family and friends. Karen was strong willed and determined, even when things were challenging. She had a wonderful attitude about life and always made the most of any situation. The cottage in Huntsville was definitely her happy place. She enjoyed many summers up there with the grandchildren, and in the winter looked forward to snowmobiling. Some of her favourite activities over the years have been; skiing, curling, broomball, and motorbiking. She and Dave loved to travel with their friends John and Joan McDonald. After Dave passed, Karen and her cousin Irene Webster travelled and had many adventures. Irene was more like a sister than a cousin, they were like ‘Thelma and Louise’ and made the most of their time together. Karen will be missed but will never be forgotten.
A public Celebration of Karen’s Life will take place at the Marsh Street Centre in Clarksburg on Wednesday, August 13, 2025 from 4 until 7 p.m., with tributes shared at 5 o’clock. A private service of committal and interment will be conducted at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
