Peacefully with his loving family by his side at Brightshores Health System in Owen Sound, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, after a brief battle with a rare appendix cancer. Born on Thursday, March 29, 1984, Jonathan Walter Campbell of Williamsford, was in his 42nd year.
Best friend and partner of Becky Whetstone, and loving daddy to their two children, Aubrey and Myles. Beloved son of Terri MacAulay (Barry) of Owen Sound, and Dan Campbell (Shannon) of Thunder Bay. Dear brother of Michael (Natasha) of Chicago, and uncle of Talon and Landon. Cherished son-in-law of Shawn and Donna Whetstone of Holland Centre, and grandson-in-law of Bill and Lorna Brewitt of Markdale. Brother-in-law of Brooke and Brandon Mitchell, and Rachel Whetstone. Jon will also be missed by his many cousins, aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends.
Predeceased by his grandparents Clary and Wilma Nicholls, and Sid Campbell (Marilyn).
Jon was the kindest, most caring man one could have the privilege of knowing. He had the biggest heart and would drop anything for anyone. Born in Owen Sound, Jon grew up in the Bognor area and attended school at the OSCVI and Grey Highlands Secondary. For the last 17 years, he was an employee of Grey County Transportation Services, maintaining our roadways, something he took so much pride in.
An avid outdoorsman, his greatest passions in life were hunting and going on adventures with his little family- canoeing, hiking and weekend getaways anywhere north or spending time at the family trailer. Next in line was Figure 8 Demolition Derbies, where fall season meant travelling to local fairs and bringing home the prize. His greatest loves were his children, whom he loved teaching about his many passions.
In June 2024, Jon was diagnosed with advanced cancer of the appendix, a diagnosis so rare that unfortunately hindered treatment options. He fought with so much strength and grace until the end, and while we had hoped for a different outcome, we take comfort to know he is now in peace and free of pain.
A special thanks to the amazing Mount Sinai Peritoneal Malignancy Team, Dr. Batten and the Grey Bruce Palliative Medicine Group, and the staff at Brightshores Health System Owen Sound for all their care and compassion. Also, a big thank you to everyone who has been there for our family throughout this journey, including the entire Williamsford and Chatsworth communities, and our Grey County family who have been such a great support.
Visitation will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492 on Wednesday, October 1, 2025 from 6-8 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Jon’s life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 11 a.m. followed by a reception at the Owen Sound Legion from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at Chatsworth United Cemetery.
Please wear camo and bring your wonderful memories to share.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Chatsworth Agricultural Society or to County of Grey (Pantry Fund) would be appreciated. Online condolences can be sent to Jon’s family by visiting his memorial at www.woodfuneralhome.ca.
