Born in Eindhoven, Netherlands, John “Hans”, passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 in his 81st year. Beloved husband of 50 years to Marie (nee Majury). Loving father of Hans and his wife Tineke, Elly and her husband Trevor Ward, and Tom and his wife Amanda. Proud Opa of Sanne, Lucas, Hunter, Auron, Rosetta, and Palmer. Dear brother of Eileen Dubrick and Jack Van Grootel. Predeceased by his parents Jack and Maria Van Grootel and his sisters Anne Sisk and Tommi LeBlanc. John will be fondly remembered by many family and friends in Canada and the Netherlands. He will also be remembered by his fellow electricians from the IBEW Local 804.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 7pm-9pm at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 1pm on Saturday, February 28, 2026 with a reception to follow at the T.A. Brown Funeral Home, 510 Mill Street, Port Elgin, 519-832-2222.

Cremation has taken place. Interment to occur at a later date.
