Peacefully, with family by her side, at Chapman House, on Sunday, June 7, 2026. Born in Holland Township on March 22, 1933, Joan Helene Atkinson MacKenzie (nee Dixon) of Owen Sound was in her 94th year.

Beloved wife of the late John MacKenzie. Loving mother of Barb Armstrong of Owen Sound, Kathy Sutcliffe of Hepworth, and mother-in-law of Paul VerBeek of Toronto. Cherished grandma of Jimmy (Clarelle), Kristen (Matt), John and Thomas (Fae). Proud great grandma of Hayden, Alyra, Luke and Oliver. Joan will also be missed by her nieces, nephews and friends.

Predeceased by her daughter Gwen VerBeek, parents Edwin and Jennie Dixon, siblings Marjorie Hopkins (George), Marion Johnson (Isaac) and Raymond Dixon, by her son-in-law Paul Armstrong, and by her sister-in-law Margaret Crosson (Phil).

A funeral service to celebrate Joan’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment will take place in Shiloh Cemetery.
