Joan is predeceased by her devoted husband Allen. She will be missed as the loving mother of Ian (Debra) Reekie, Wanda (Patrick) Allcock, Scott Reekie (KellyAnn Zander), Cheryl Kasserman (Scott Hunter), and Victoria (Barry) Jackson. She was blessed with 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Born in Vaughan Township on November 30, 1939, a daughter of the late Gordon and Edith Findlay.
Joan leaves behind her brothers Peter (Lone), Samuel (Beverly) and Ron as well as her brother-in-law John Humphreys, and sisters-in-law Muriel Reekie and Katherine Reekie.
She is predeceased by her sister Ruth Humphreys, brother-in-law Harvey Reekie, and sisters-in-law Alice Wilson (late Carl Wilson) and Mabel Almond (Bill Almond).
Joan will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, as well as friends who became a part of her family over the years. She was Auntie Joan to so many children who were welcomed into her home, and held a special place in her heart for Carrie Alderdice.
The church was very important to Joan and her family. She spent many hours volunteering at the church and the school. She was very generous with her time. Joan was extremely kind, patient and supportive. She loved spending time teaching children to do things that they enjoyed; like crafts, cooking and baking. Joan had a way of encouraging young people and helping them with their confidence and self-esteem. This was a true gift. She was a wonderful friend and had a great sense of humour. Joan and Allen were amazing parents and very much a team. They always listened carefully and would only offer advice or guidance when asked. If a mistake was made, they were always there to catch us when we fell with a soft spot to land.
Thank you to the many friends who supported and inspired mom along her journey.
Thank you to the staff at Mill Creek Care Center for your dedication to mom’s physical and spiritual well being while in your care.
