It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Ed on January 1, 2026 at Royal Victoria Hospital, Barrie, of Flesherton in his 77th year.
Beloved husband of 55 years to Colleen(nee Wright). Loving father of Jamie(Cindy Cook) of Markdale and Michael(Jessica) of Meaford. Proud grandfather of Ella (Ace) and Silas, Sierra and Rowan. Dear brother of Arnold (Loraine) of Fredericton, NB and MaryAnn Moore of Kirkfield.
Ed was born June 12, 1949 to the late Edmond and Wilhelmina Boer in Bussum, Holland. Their family came to Canada in 1952, first living in St. Jean, PQ and moving to Milton, Ontario in 1963. There Ed met Colleen. In 1970 Ed and Colleen married and started life together looking for their “happily ever after”. Ed’s work took them to Brampton, Woodstock and then back to Milton. His entrepreneurial spirit brought them to where Colleen’s family roots are deep in Flesherton in 1984.
His energy and drive started his company “Aero Industries” – first in the basement of the family home, expanding several times to a shop on their Flesherton property and then to an industrial building in Markdale. The Markdale location was expanded three times to accommodate their growing business. Ed and his family worked shoulder to shoulder from 1985 to present day – building Aero Industries into a success.
During this busy time of life Ed also shared his time and energies with his community as a Scout leader, Kinsmen Club member, Learning Enrichment Foundation Board member, Centre Grey Hospital Foundation Board member and as volunteer on the Flesherton Artemesia Fire Department for 13 years. He truly enjoyed the camaraderie of the Fire Department. His other interests of old cars, motorcycles, travel and camping with family and friends filled his days.
In 2015 it was time to start to relax and enjoy life. Ed loved a good book and quiet time with family and friends. He built a couple of rat rod trucks (one with a skull front) which was a hit at the Markdale Car Show. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides with family and friends and the Probus Club motorcycle group. His passion for travelling took him to such places as Holland, San Francisco, Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Iceland, etc. Time with family and friends still took priority. New Year’s 2025 was celebrated in Ottawa with good friends Joe and Jackie Hayward.
May 2025 saw him in Holland with brother Arnie and Loraine and his sister MaryAnn. Reconnecting with extended family was a joy for Ed. Family suppers and family hugs filled out his days.
He was much loved and he will be much missed. Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him.
Funeral service will be held at the Flesherton Kinplex on Friday, January 16 at 1:00pm, followed by a time of refreshment and fellowship. Cremation has taken place and he will be interred at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Glenelg in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Plan International or The Hanley Institute would be greatly appreciated. Online donations and condolences at www.fawcettfuneralhome.ca
