Dorothy Rankin of Hepworth, at Lee Manor, Owen Sound on Wednesday March 4, 2026. Dorothy Jean Rankin (nee Buckby) at the age of 94 years.
Dear wife of almost 50 years to the late Lloyd Rankin (2007). Cherished mother to Brian and his partner Marsha Thomas, of Mar, Julie and her husband Randy Atchison, of Hepworth, and the late Janice (2000) and her husband Bill Kreutzweiser, of Toronto. Dear grandmother of Mark, Chris, Kevin, Jennifer, and Braden; and four great-grandchildren. Sadly missed by her special friend, Harry Hendry.
Dorothy’s parents immigrated from England and she grew up on their market garden farm in Port Elgin. She pursued a career in nursing and graduated from Toronto East General. Dorothy enjoyed serving the community as a registered nurse at the Wiarton Hospital for 25 years.
For 50 years she shared a life with her husband raising three children in Wiarton, cottaging in Oliphant, vacationing in Florida, and retiring to the farm outside of Hepworth. She enjoyed travel, hosting her bridge cub ladies, watching the Blue Jays, and visiting with grandchildren. Dorothy survived a major stroke in 2016 and was able to stay in her home for 8 more years with the support of her special companion, Harry. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all.
Family wish to thank the home care PSWs, and the staff of Lee Manor for the wonderful care given to Dorothy.
Family invite friends to call for visitation at the Thomas C. Whitcroft Peninsula Chapel, 272 Berford St., Wiarton (519) 534-5341 on Monday March 9, 2026 from 2 to 4 PM.
