It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Donald Richard Shropshire on September 22, 2025 at Brightshores Health System in Markdale at the age of 89.
Beloved husband of the late Barbara Shropshire (nee Fortune). Loving father of Randy (Dianne) Shropshire of Markdale, Donnie (Judi) Shropshire of Berkeley and Nancy Shropshire of Markdale. Loving Pa of Wendy (Jay), John (Katelyn), Jenn (Darron), Matt, Toby (Tammy), Mike, Chris (Allana) and Kirsti. Great-grandPa of Alyssa, Brooklin, Searra, Tyrus, Dylan, Avery, Neve, Madison, Nolan, Mackenna, Zoey, Korbon, Aidan, Kendra, Brayden, Alleena, Mattiayh, Tevyn, Austin, Cohen and Nash. Soon to be great-great grandpa of a wee grandson. Treasured brother of Marian Hill of Markdale.
Predeceased by his daughter, Susan (Hugo) Poulsen, brother, Thomas Shropshire and his dear friend, Grace.
Donald spent most of his growing up days in the Queensville and Keswick area, attending the Bogertown School in Newmarket and starting his working career at CIL Paints in Toronto. When his custom plowing and lawn maintenance business started to boom, he stepped away from CIL to pursue this full time. He and Barbara spent most of their lives working their Stoney Creek Farm in Markdale and raising their children.
Family was a true passion of Donald’s leading his large flock like a true shepherd and leader. He guided with love and care and unapologetically valued his faith. No matter what his role; Police Officer, Bus Driver, Hockey Coach, and Boy Scout Leader, he instilled this care not only in his own children and grandchildren, but those in the community as well. Donald was a lover of nature and animals, having a particular affinity for birds. Donald was an amazing banjo player, sharing his love of bluegrass with his brother and sister, who even had the chance to tickle the airways with their sweet melodies. Donald was much loved and will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 29th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Fawcett Funeral Cremation Reception, 1 Highland Drive, Flesherton. A funeral service will be held the following day, on Tuesday, September 30 at 10:30am. Interment to follow at the Markdale Cemetery.
