Dianne B. Charlton passed away peacefully at Chapman House Hospice on her 76th birthday, Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Dianne is survived by her sister Kathryn Schlotzhauer (Barry), her sister-in-law Elizabeth Bumstead and her brothers-in-law Ronald Charlton and Floyd Charlton (Doreen). Predeceased by her parents Elmer and Caroline Freestone, her husband, Elmer Charlton (2015), her sister in law, Josephine Margaret Thomson and her brother Ron Freestone of Perth, Western Australia.
She will be missed by her nieces, nephews and friends. Dianne formed life-long friendships and kept a liaison with many from her school days, work settings, her time at University of Guelph, Sears Canada, Statistics Canada and Richardson, Bond & Wright Co. Limited (R.B.W.) As well, she served the Municipality of Meaford in various paid and volunteer positions.
Wit and wisdom were hers. Always the listener, her commiserating shoulders held the confidential concerns of many friends. A prolific reader who gave from her large collection of historic novels and who dunnits, to many community locations. Also, a skilled knitter, who speedily provided hundreds of pair of mittens for charity, friends and their loved ones. A passionate Blue Jays fan, she cheered and could recall their game schedules and play by play moves as well as any sports announcer.
We are honoured to have known her and to have become her trusted friends.
In keeping with Dianne’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at Annan Cemetery in May. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, (519) 376-7492.
As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations to the Grey Bruce Chapman House Hospice would be a way to share in her legacy.
