Bernard George ‘Bernie’ Cotter of Southampton, formerly of Chesley, passed away at Brightshores Health System, Southampton, on Monday, September 7, 2026, at the age of 82.

Loving father of Nancy (Greg) Kuhl of Port Elgin, Michael (Kathy) of Hanover, Tim (Melissa) of St. Thomas, Steve (Heidi) of Riversdale, Christopher (Stephanie Etchells) Baker of Ottawa and Colin (Shannon) Baker of Elmira. Cherished grandfather of Jamie, Carly, Linda, Lily, Emma, Kylie, Oliver, Taylor, Anne and Jarett. Dear brother of Raymond (Margaret) of Chesley, Brian (Joanne) of Kitchener, Paul (Joyce) of Fergus, Teresa James of Southampton, and Dorothy Knorr of Hanover. Bernie will be missed by the McAllister and Batte families, and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his first wife Carol (McAllister) and second wife Diane (Batte), his sisters Patricia (Stuart) Jacklin, Mary Cotter, brothers-in-law Clifford James and Ken Knorr, and his parents Harold and Velma (Russell) Cotter.

Visitation will be held at Rhody Family Funeral Home, Chesley, on Friday, September 18, 2026, from 6 – 9 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Chesley, on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. Interment in Chesley Cemetery.

Memorial donations to Parkinson Canada, Chesley Agricultural Society, or the Chesley Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
