Meaford will be accepting additional nominations for deputy mayor, after the lone candidate who filed ahead of last Friday’s deadline did not get certified.
The municipality issued a news release Monday afternoon acknowledging there was one nomination received for the office of deputy mayor, but the “clerk rejected this nomination because it did not comply with the requirements of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.”
No other explanation was provided for the rejected nomination.
The candidate who had his deputy mayor nomination rejected was current Meaford Coun. Rob Uhrig, according to unofficial online candidate information.
The Municipality of Meaford gave formal notice it will be accepting additional deputy mayor candidate nominations, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday. They can be filed in person at the municipal office at 21 Trowbridge Street West.
“The certification of additional candidate nominations will be completed by 4 p.m. on Wednesday,” a release from the municipality explains.
