It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Rowe of Port Elgin, at the age of 88.

Douglas is predeceased by his beloved son Steven (Rebecca), his brother Richard (Dawn), as well as his parents Richard (Dick) and Mary. He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 64 years, in addition to his devoted daughter Sharon Summers (Mike). He was adored by all of his grandchildren, Rianne (Justin), Kylie, Erin, and Dylan, as well as by his first great grandchild, Sully. Doug cherished the many trips he shared with his sister-in-law Faye Crowder (Roland), as well as all the special times they spent together. We extend our deepest gratitude to both Faye and Roland for their care, love, and unwavering support over these past few months.

Doug was a resident of Port Elgin for over 60 years and made a large impact on the community during that time. He enjoyed a long career as a chemist with Ontario Hydro and upon retirement remained an active science enthusiast by judging youth science fairs. Additionally, over the years he was a dedicated scout leader, curler, barbershop singer, wood carver and founded the Breakers swim team more than 50 years ago.
Life around Doug meant knowing that he never met a stranger. He was the kind of person to go out of his way to talk to people and make them feel special. While he loved doing many things, his most cherished time was spent with family, who always came first to him.

A celebration of life will take place on September 26th. 2026 at 1:00pm at the Port Elgin United Church. 840 Bruce Street, Port Elgin where all will be welcomed.
