The municipal election nomination deadline looms in Grey Bruce without a full slate of candidates.
As of August 18th, unofficial candidates lists show the Town of Northern Bruce Peninsula has only two people running for councillor seats when they normally need three councillors. Two people are running for mayor and one for deputy mayor.
So far, Georgian Bluffs only has four people running for five council seats.
Incumbent mayors are running for re-election uncontested in Georgian Bluffs, Brockton, Southgate, Arran-Elderslie, and West Grey.
There are deputy mayor candidates that will be acclaimed if no one runs against them in Kincardine, Arran-Elderslie, Meaford, West Grey, Town of the Blue Mountains, Georgian Bluffs, Southgate, Huron-Kinloss and Owen Sound.
There are council seats around Grey Bruce that could also be acclaimed without a race.
The City of Owen Sound is reminding residents nominations for the municipal and school board election close at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 21st.
That means those who are interested in serving their community as mayor, deputy mayor, councillor or school board trustee have only a few days remaining to submit their nomination papers.
The City says in a release, “Municipal government plays an important role in shaping the future of our community. Decisions made by elected officials influence local infrastructure, recreation, economic development, public safety, environmental services, and the quality of life residents experience every day. Serving in elected office provides an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the future of Owen Sound.”
They’re encouraging prospective candidates not to wait to the final day to file. They say election staff are available to answer questions, review nomination requirements, and help ensure nomination packages are complete before they are submitted. Filing ahead of the deadline can help avoid delays caused by incomplete endorsement forms, missing signatures, or other missing information.
