The Durham Thundercats have outgrown their dressing room.
The Thundercats plan to build a new dressing room on the east side of the Durham Community Centre arena and have asked for a loan from the municipality of West Grey.
The Ontario Elite Hockey League team’s Director of Hockey Operations Don Trumble brought the request to West Grey council earlier this week.
Approximate costs of the dressing room could be as high as $250,000, but Trumble hopes to decrease it to around $100,000.
Trumble says the current room does not have proper amenities, such as space for the athletic therapist and other staff, or even enough room for all the athletes.
If the new dressing room is built, the current Thundercats room would be given back to the municipality.
The loan would be paid back over a proposed 10-year plan, but Trumble hopes to pay it back sooner.
“We said 10 years, but I think we can do it a lot sooner,” says Trumble. “Pay back $10,000 a year or $12,000 a year, $15,000 or whatever we can make work.”
The team hopes to have it ready during the upcoming 2026-27 season.
