Tim Harrison, one of the founders of popular music and crafts festival Summerfolk has died.
His family announced his passing in a social media post.
A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
From Owen Sound, Harrison recorded multiple albums starting in 1978. According to his online biography, he was involved in promoting folk music during that time as a radio host, concert promoter and artistic director of festivals across the country, including Owen Sound Summerfolk (founder), the Mariposa Folk Festival (1982), the Northwind Folk Festival (1983-84) and the Eaglewood Folk Festival (1993-99).
Harrison toured across Canada, the United States and the UK. In 2019, he published his book, “Acoustic Espionage, Folk Clubs, Festivals, and Maps Of Paris,” which tells the story of starting the Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival and details his journey.
Tim’s passing comes within months of the loss of his brother John. The pair co-founded Summerfolk, which is held annually at Kelso Beach at Nawash Park in Owen Sound.
