The U19 Shute Optometry North Stars Girls Field Lacrosse closed out their regular season with a thrilling 7-6 victory over Mimico on Seniors Night in Owen Sound.
The North Stars came out strong, building a 2-0 lead after the first quarter, but a difficult second quarter saw Mimico take control and head into halftime with a 4-3 advantage. The Stars regrouped during the break and responded with a dominant third quarter, taking back momentum and holding off every late push from Mimico to secure the one-goal win.
Kyla Johnson was exceptional in net, making several key saves throughout the game and giving the North Stars the stability they needed in the final minutes.
The offense was led by:
Hannah Davies – 3 goals
Ryann Seaman – 2 goals
Lily Shute – 1 goal
Avery Thompson – 1 goal
While the victory was important, the night was truly about celebrating the team’s senior players. Seven athletes will finish their North Stars playing careers at Provincials this season, and Senior Night provided a special opportunity to recognize their determination, leadership, commitment, and the role they have played as the cornerstone of the North Stars’ success.
The organization proudly honoured Hannah Davies, Ryann Seaman, Cali Hill, Willow Smith Spinney, Ella McCoubrey, Grace Smyth and Katie Marshall for leading the team by example throughout their careers.
The Owen Sound North Stars wish all seven seniors the very best in their future endeavors. Their impact on the program will be lasting, and they will truly be missed.
Next up is Provincial Weekend in Oakville August 7-9.
