Kids can take to the skies over Grey Bruce for free today.
The Saugeen Municipal Airport is hosting Kids Fly, a one-day event on Saturday (June 13) when kids ages eight to 17 will have the opportunity to take a flight.
“This popular event returns for 2026 thanks to the Friends of the Saugeen Municipal Airport and local area pilots who volunteer their time, fuel and airplanes,” a release from the Saugeen Airport explains. “Each flight lasts about twenty minutes and gives kids a chance to get an up-close look at a plane, watch a pilot in action and view local towns, farms and the Saugeen River from above.”
Registration for the Kids Fly event at Saugeen Municipal Airport starts at 9 a.m. today. Kids need to be accompanied by a parent or an adult to sign up.
“If accompanied by an adult who is not their parent, kids must have a note from a parent authorizing them to fly, with the parent’s signature, name and phone number clearly shown,” the release explains.
There will also be a free hot dog or hamburger, and fries, for kids to munch on after their flight.
The Saugeen Municipal Airport is located between Hanover and Walkerton at 34 Saugeen Airport Road.
It is owned by the Town of Hanover, the Municipality of Brockton and the Municipality of West Grey and management of the facility is overseen by the Saugeen Municipal Airport Commission, a five-member board with representation from each of the three municipal owners and two representatives from the pilot community.
