Police in Grey Bruce took a number of commercial vehicles off the road in an enforcement blitz this month.
OPP say it was a coordinated four-day commercial vehicle enforcement initiative involving Grey Bruce OPP, Saugeen Shores Police, Hanover Police, West Grey Police and the Ministry of Transportation Ontario in early June.
Officers conducted a total of 95 commercial vehicle inspections.
Police say 81 charges were laid for various violations, and 41 vehicles were deemed unsafe and placed out of service.
OPP say, violations identified during the inspections included mechanical deficiencies, improper documentation, and other safety-related infractions they say pose a risk to public safety.
OPP say, “This operation highlights the continued commitment of all participating agencies to work collaboratively in promoting road safety and ensuring that commercial vehicles meet safety standards. Unsafe vehicles on our roadways present a significant risk, not only to their operators but to all road users.”
They add, “Commercial motor vehicle safety remains a priority. Regular inspections and enforcement initiatives are essential in reducing collisions, preventing injuries, and saving lives.”
Grey Bruce OPP are reminding all commercial vehicle operators and companies of their responsibility to ensure vehicles are properly maintained and operated in compliance with all applicable laws.
