Graham Scott Henry

The song says ,” Only the Good Die Young,” and that must be true as Graham was way too young to leave us. He fought the good fight but the darn cancer finally won. Graham Scott Henry passed away in his 73rd year in the kind and compassionate care of Chapman House Hospice on Saturday June 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He has joined his Mom and Dad, (Leona and Mel) and brother (David) to add to the Heavenly Henry Golfers.
He leaves behind Barb (Turner) wife and life partner of over 50 years as well as their children and their families: Amanda of Dundalk, Blake, Christina (Arndt), Autumn and Quinn of Buck Horn and Ethan, Tammy (McCannell), Foster and Sullivan of Grand Valley as well as his sister Kimberley, Jim (Stewart), Andrew(Laura) and Brett of Holstein and his sister-in law Marie (Henry)of Mount Forest and Cara, Blaire and Michael.
Graham was born in Shelburne but raised in Dundalk as little brother to David and big brother to Kimberley. He attended King Edward Public School where the highlight of his schooling was using the long metal tube fire escape. He graduated from Grey Highlands Secondary School with his favourite hangouts being the art room and Student Common Room. He worked for his Dad at Mel Henry Woodworking before heading to Fanshawe College in London for Construction Technology where he excelled and returned to work with his Dad and eventually taking over the business.
Graham was an artist at heart using lumber, drywall, plywood and nails as his canvass, brushes and sculpting tools. Each structure that he built or renovated was his masterpiece especially when a house became a home. He and his dad travelled from Mayfield to Grand Valley to Oakwood to Hockley Valley to Honeywood and all through Grey Highlands and Southgate to build and renovate homes, farm buildings and potato storages. His last project sadly did not get finished and is now in the capable hands of his children.
Graham and Barb were married in 1976 and eventually settled in Dundalk when Barb began her teaching career. After Amanda and Blake were born the family moved to Grey Rd 4 beside Barb’s family farm and that became home base for them. Ethan arrived and Graham soon became hockey and ball coach for the boys going to OBA and OMHA finals with them while cheering Amanda along in her artistic endeavours. Being self employed he could always make the games and drove the van with players and his harem of moms. Barb and Graham did not take traditional holidays but rather spent their summer weekends at ball diamonds and winters in hockey arenas and Labour Day was not right if they were not at an OBA tournament or helping to host one for Flesherton Minor Ball.
When Barb retired from teaching Graham liked the look of that and retired too and instead of going to ball games and hockey games they took up trailer camping travelling through southern Ontario, ending the season at an International Ploughing Match usually with David and Marie. They eventually became trailer trash at a trailer park near Blake and spent 4 seasons there before Graham’s illness put an end to their camping days. Graham loved it there and he soon found a valued circle of friends he could talk with about everything and anything and he learned how to play Holely Board. They joined forces with the Lintons and Posts to spend quality time in Cuba. That was Graham’s happy place and he so wanted to return to the sand and the sun.
We were blessed to have him as a life partner, dad and grandpa.
A come and go celebration of Graham’s life will take place at the Flesherton Kinplex on Saturday, June 13 from 11:00 -1:00 with a time of shared memories at 12:30. There will be cards there for visitors to record their memories of Graham for his family to enjoy or bring prewritten ones. Cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest at Salem Cemetery, Eugenia on their wedding anniversary weekend in August. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Grey Bruce Hospice (Chapman House) or Highland United Church, Eugenia (cheques made out Flesherton Pastoral Charge) would be greatly appreciated.
