The Ontario Hockey League’s pre-draft trade window opened and the Owen Sound Attack finalized a pair of transactions.
The Attack moved goaltender Trenten Bennett to the Flint Firebirds in exchange for four OHL Priority Selection picks, and acquired goaltender Ryerson Leenders from Brantford Bulldogs for the rights to defenceman Jet Kwajah and draft picks.
The team announced the trades on Tuesday afternoon.
Bennett, 20, spent parts of two seasons with the Attack. The 6-foot-8 netminder appeared in 27 games during the 2025-26 campaign, posting a 3.93 goals against average and .896 save percentage. He will be an overage player in the 2026-27 OHL season.
“We thank Trenten for his dedication to the Owen Sound Attack over the course of these past two seasons and wish him the best in his future with Flint,” says Attack President Tyler Nother in a release.
The draft picks the Attack are getting from Flint in the deal are Sudbury’s third-round selection in 2026, fifth- and sixth-rounders in 2029 and a 15th-round selection in 2028.
The opening in the Attack crease is being filled by another goaltender who will be an overage player in the 2026-27 season. Leenders, 20, joins the Attack after helping to backstop the Bulldogs to an appearance in the Eastern Conference final.
The Nanticoke native was 27-5-6 in 39 games for Brantford last season, with a .910 save percentage and a 2.69 goals against average.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ryerson Leenders to the Owen Sound Attack organization,” Nother says. “Ryerson is one of the premier goaltenders in the OHL, and we believe his addition sends a strong message to our group that we are ready to compete. Ryerson had several opportunities for his overage season and ultimately chose Owen Sound, which speaks volumes about our organization and the direction we’re heading in. Ryerson’s confidence, competitiveness, and work ethic will make him an immediate impact player on the ice and a fan favourite in Owen Sound.”
In addition to sending the rights to Kwajah, who is entering his third year of major junior eligibility after spending the past two seasons in the USHL, the Attack moved a fifth-round pick in 2026, and two conditional picks in 2027 (Soo’s second, and Oshawa’s fourth) to acquire Leenders.
Owen Sound also receives a conditional 15th round pick from Brantford.
