The Wheel & Ride Safety Festival is back in Owen Sound on Saturday.
Honoured with the 2024 Festivals and Events Ontario Innovation Award and the 2025 OBIAA Special Events Award of Excellence, this event offers a morning of free, family-friendly activities focused on bicycle road safety and fun.
The festival features a variety of activities, including road safety lessons, a helmet-fitting clinic, an obstacle course, and spring bike tune-ups.
Presented by the Owen Sound River District, the Kiwanis Club of Owen Sound, the Optimist Club of Sydenham & District, the Owen Sound & District Junior Optimists, Scenic Cycle, and Owen Sound Police Services, the event will also feature a charity BBQ starting at 11 a.m.
The Wheel & Ride Bike Program has distributed over 200 refurbished bikes back into the community to those who might otherwise go without. Bike distribution for this year’s event begins at 10 a.m.
The festival takes place just outside the Frog Ponds Cafe. To accommodate the event, 8th Street East (from 2nd Avenue East to 3rd Avenue East) will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m.
