Saugeen Beach’s shorelines are ready for summer action.
A group of 85 volunteers came together on Saturday, May 16, to remove more than 220 pounds of litter from the shoreline during the combined Saugeen Beach and Sauble Beach Clean-up.
Volunteers spread out along eight kilometres of shoreline from the Sauble River down to French Bay Road to collect litter that had accumulated over the winter months.
The effort was to help prepare the beach for the busy summer season while contributing to the long-term health of the coastal ecosystem.
The event, which was led by many different local groups say “Events like this demonstrate what is possible when communities come together around a shared purpose. The clean-up was about more than removing litter — it was an opportunity to connect with one another, strengthen relationships, and care for a place that means so much to many people.”
They say the clean-up is not just for the environmental impact, it is also for the community connections it creates.
