Peacefully at Brightshores Health System – Owen Sound on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Born in Owen Sound on December 9, 1933, Louis Bain Dier of Owen Sound was in his 93rd year.

Beloved husband for 71 years of Jean Dier (nee McLean) of Owen Sound. Loving father of Heather Simkins (Doug) of Owen Sound, Catherine Hamilton of Kitchener, and Linda Mueller (John) of Owen Sound. Cherished grandpa of Cory (Sarah), Mercedes (Keegan), Brayden (Jessica), Merissa (Kent) and Brenden (Ashley). Proud great grandpa of Max and Molly. Dear brother of Marian Featherstone of Milton and Margaret Subject of Williamsford. Lou will also be missed by his nieces, nephews and friends.

Predeceased by his parents Stanley and Mary Dier, and by his brothers Robert Dier and David Dier.

Soon after Lou and Jean married, a lot was purchased and he laid the foundation of their home, where he insisted he remain till the very end. This home is part of a wonderful neighbourhood, which he cherished to this day. He enjoyed working hard and spent the majority of his years at RBW, where he retired, only to return to assist them, when needed, driving clients back and forth to the airport. In retirement, Lou and Jean enjoyed travelling south in the winter, exploring Canada and cruising with friends and family. Throughout their travels, they made many lifelong friends.

Lou was an avid curler who proudly served as president of the Bluewater Curling Club. He was a longtime member of the Eastside Snowmobiling Club, often talking about the fun times they all had working together on the trails and the races through the years. Lou enjoyed golfing and having the occasional coffee with his friends.

A funeral service to celebrate Lou’s life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery.
