Owen Sound’s River District could have a different look this summer.
ArtCures Grey Bruce has approached the city with a request to install temporary art murals downtown this summer, and to permanently dress up six public utility boxes.
The request was brought before Owen Sound’s community services committee at Wednesday’s meeting.
The purpose of temporary public art installations is to provide opportunities to animate public areas, create points of interest for residents and visitors.
It also supports local arts and culture organizations through accessible and engaging programming.
A staff report says the art will celebrate and embrace culture by uplifting all aspects of the city’s local culture, including Indigenous Peoples’ cultural histories and practices, the cultural histories and practices of all residents, and formal institutional arts and culture.
