Captain Grant Dawson passed away May 5, 2026 only one concession south of where he was born on his family’s Kemble area farm in 1932.

From humble beginnings Grant became a Great Lakes mariner in 1952. Working his way up he eventually captained Great Lakes ships before being enrolled into the Corporation of Great Lakes Pilots where he served the final 17 years of his career.

Predeceased by his wife Elsbeth, as well as thirteen of his fifteen siblings.

Grant will be missed by his children Cheryl Dawson (Brad Hood), Jeff Dawson and Krista Bell, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Grant could start up a conversation with anyone he met. He had a gift for the gab and was a kind soul lending an ear and a hand to anyone who needed it. He loved the Kemble area and was familiar with many of the long-term residents.

Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Georgian Bluffs at a date to be determined. Arrangements entrusted to Grey Bruce Cremation and Burial Services.
