Posted May 4, 2026 | 10:55 AM

After a long battle with Parkinsons Lewy Body Dementia, Rudy peacefully passed on Sunday, April 26, 2026 at Meaford Long Term Care. Rudy lived most recently on Lake Eugenia, formerly of Etobicoke, and in his 84th year.
Beloved husband of 60 years to “Liz” Elizabeth (nee Postle), loving father of Anne (Steve) Pulford of Whistler, BC, Tom (Tracey Forrest) of Waterloo, Lorraine (Tom) Longhurst of Manly, New South Wales, Australia, Dave (Stacey) of Holland Centre. Beloved grandfather of Emily, Scott, Kyle, Kendall, Kara, Ripley, Taylor and Gus. He will be missed by brothers Walt (Marg) of Collingwood, Vern (Linda) of Calgary, and sisters Elfrieda (Reg) Snow of Belleville and Rita (Greg) Sims of Kingsville. Predeceased by brother Henry and his parents Henry and Sara. Survived by his sister in-law Nancy of Waterloo and brother in-law Teddy Postle of Flesherton. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
Rudy was born July 16, 1942 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. When Rudy was seven years old, the family moved to a tomato and asparagus farm near Leamington, Ontario. After completing his engineering degree at the University of Guelph, he went on to complete his Masters at McMaster University. He began his career at the Atomic Power Department at GE in Peterborough, where he worked for four years, before joining Ontario Hydro’s head office in Toronto. There he spent 30 years as a nuclear engineer, leading the design of safety systems for Ontario’s nuclear reactors. His colleagues will remember him running at lunch through Queen’s Park.
Intelligent and gentle, Rudy raised his four children with patience and kindness, and was a devoted father and grandfather. In retirement, Rudy and Liz spent 20 wonderful years at Lake Eugenia. He loved outdoor adventure — hiking, canoeing, camping, skiing, hockey, golf, and snowshoeing — and travelled to Australia and Whistler many times to visit family, as well as hiking around the world with Liz and their friends.
He will be greatly missed for his dry sense of humour and warm, gentle nature.
The family welcomes you to come celebrate a life well lived on Friday, July 10 from 1:00–3:00pm at the Beaver Valley Ski Club, Senior Members Lounge. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson research in Rudy’s memory would be greatly appreciated.
