West Grey Police are out with a warning about safely using online classified services such as Facebook Marketplace or Kijiji, after a serious assault near Neustadt.
Police say on Saturday afternoon a victim was “lured under false pretenses” to an abandoned rural property in the area of Grey Road 9 — east of Neustadt — and then assaulted by unknown suspects.
They say the victim was left with serious injuries, and was transported to hospital by a concerned passerby.
Police say this is believed to be an isolated incident.
“There is no threat to public safety at this time,” West Grey Police say in a release.
West Grey Police are asking anyone who may have noticed anything suspicious in the area of Grey Road 9, east of Neustadt, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
Police are also reminding people to exercise caution when arranging meetings through online marketplaces. They say you should always arrange meetings in well-lit areas, and never attend unfamiliar locations alone.
