The MS Chi-Cheemaun will begin its 2026 sailing season on Friday May 1st, offering daily crossings between Tobermory and Manitoulin Island through one of Ontario’s most scenic waterways.
Ontario Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria says the ferry has been a vital transportation link for more than 50 years, helping connect residents, visitors and businesses between the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island.
The season officially begins with the sold-out Spring Repositioning Cruise, departing Owen Sound Harbour on Thursday April 30th for Tobermory. This year’s onboard fundraising partner is Women’s House Serving Bruce & Grey.
Other highlights this season include the Sail Through Time exhibit, featuring historic photographs and artifacts from the ferry’s history, and the Play for Passage program, offering live entertainment on select sailings with musicians, artists and guest speakers.
A special Chi-Cheemaun Festival Cruise is also planned for June 13th, featuring an evening sailing along Tobermory’s shoreline with a barbecue meal and fireworks, weather permitting.
Passengers will also have access to the Boatique gift store, vehicle deck space for everything from motorhomes to bicycles, and walk-on passenger access.
Officials note the ferry is scheduled for its five-year dry dock inspection at the end of the season, so no Fall Repositioning Cruise is planned this year.
Reservations and more information are available through Ontario Ferries.
