Ontario Provincial Police says processing times for online police record checks have improved significantly following months of delays.
The OPP reports current turnaround times are averaging approximately 10 days, down from the 12 to 14 week backlog experienced during the summer and fall of 2025.
Police say several changes were made over the past few months to address the issue, including a full review of the Online Police Record Checks Unit, an internal audit, updates to policies and procedures, and the addition of more resources.
The OPP’s official service standard remains completion of all levels of record checks within 30 days.
Officials note processing times may rise closer to that standard during periods of peak demand, but say the unit remains focused on providing timely service.
People living in OPP-policed communities who need a police record check are asked to apply through the online process, as local detachments are unable to process applications in person.
Anyone with questions about an application is encouraged to use the dedicated support line rather than the OPP non-emergency number.
