Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MP Alex Ruff has issued a statement thanking first responders for their successful rescue of 23 people stuck on an ice shelf as it drifted out into Georgian Bay earlier this month.
Ruff, released the following statement to recognize all responders that assisted with the successful rescue on March 8th.
“On behalf of the constituents of Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, I would like to thank all first responders for their speedy response to the aid of 23 ice fishers that became stranded on the drifting ice.
“I would like to thank the OPP, Coast Guard, local Inter Township Fire Department, Owen Sound Fire Department, Hanover Fire Department, North Bruce Peninsula Fire Department, AirOrnge, Grey County Paramedic Services, Bruce County Paramedic Services, the Ministry of Natural Resources and all responders for their coordinated and professional response that shows how ready our community members are to assist.
“I also want to acknowledge Cobble Beach Golf Course for making their facilities available to act as a landing and triage site for the aircraft that assisted in the rescue.
“I am impressed by how quickly our community responded to this challenge. It is without a doubt due to the dedication, commitment, and courage of our first responders that this incident ended successfully with a safe rescue.”
He adds, “Please stay safe out on our lakes everyone.”
