The Municipality of Brockton says extensive flooding is occurring in the hamlet of Pinkerton following a breach in a privately owned dyke.
Municipal officials say they are coordinating the response with several partner agencies including the County of Bruce, the Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority, and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources.
The municipality has also initiated discussions with Brockton’s Emergency Operations Control Group while enhanced monitoring continues for affected properties in the area.
Emergency response crews were scheduled to conduct sandbagging efforts Saturday afternoon in an attempt to reduce further damage to properties in Pinkerton.
Mayor Chris Peabody says he has reached out to residents impacted by the flooding and expressed appreciation for the agencies assisting with the response.
Fire Chief and Director of Fire and Emergency Services Chris Wells also thanked partner organizations, including the Hanover Fire Department, for their cooperation during the emergency response.
Officials say that at this time the flooding is not expected to affect surrounding hamlets or nearby communities.
Residents are being urged to avoid the area and stay off closed roads, noting that some roadways may be compromised.
The municipality says updates will continue to be posted on the Brockton website and social media channels as more information becomes available.
