Owen Sound Police have charged the driver who was involved in a fatal collision with a pedestrian last month.
On February 17th at around 8 p.m., a pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck at the intersection of 10th Street East and 16th Avenue East in Owen Sound.
The pedestrian, identified by family as 48-year-old Sabrina Ormsby was struck while crossing at the crosswalk. She was taken to a London-area trauma centre where she later succumbed to her injuries.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to support Ormsby’s family following her death – husband David Greenfield, and their three children, aged 11, 14, and 17.
To date, more than $27,000 has been raised.
According to Ormsby’s sister, Niki, Ormsby’s oldest child was with her at the time of the collision, and was the one who first called 911.
The funds raised for the family will help support therapy for the children, as the collision coincidentally took place on Ormsby’s middle child’s birthday.
The 66-year-old male driver of the pickup truck, has been charged with careless driving causing death under the Highway Traffic Act, according to police.
He’s expected in court in April.
Investigators also specified that the driver remained at the scene, and cooperated with the investigation.
Owen Sound Police also say that they are grateful to members of the public who came forward with information.
