The Town of Hanover has approved a new Mobile Refreshment Vendor By-law, modernizing its regulatory framework for food trucks and other mobile food vendors.
The updated by-law consolidates three outdated and overlapping vending by-laws into one comprehensive and streamlined regulation. Officials say the change creates clearer definitions, harmonized licensing requirements, standardized operational rules, and stronger enforcement mechanisms.
The update was prompted by the successful 2025 Food Truck Pilot Program, which highlighted strong community interest and demonstrated the positive impact food trucks can have on local public spaces.
Under the new structure, annual licence fees will be $565 per vehicle or stand and $55 per refreshment bicycle, such as ice cream bikes. Council also approved amendments to the 2026 Rates, Fees and Charges By-law to reflect the updated terminology.
Town staff say the revised framework supports small business innovation, economic development, tourism, and community engagement while enhancing public safety and municipal oversight.
The Town will review actual program costs in 2026 and consider any necessary fee adjustments as part of the 2027 budget process.
