Peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at Lee Manor nursing home. Born in Amabel Township on December 13, 1937, William John Johnston of Owen Sound was in his 88th year.

Beloved husband and best friend of Donna (nèe McTeer) for 63 years. Loving father of Randy (Brenda) of Brantford, Craig of Owen Sound, and Jennifer (Mike) of Walkerton. Cherished grandpa to Kristy (Gino), Tyler, Abbey (Zak), Owen, and Jacob. Treasured great-grandpa of Beckett. Dear brother of Bev (Joyce) of Port Elgin, brothers and sisters-in-law: Elaine Campbell, Dennis (Brenda), Dale (Janine), Ian (Pam), Nina, and Heather McTeer, and Betty (Mike) Crone. Survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Predeceased by his parents Bill and Olive Johnston (nèe Foreman), and his sister Winona (Alvin) McTeer, brothers and sisters-in-laws: Merie (Dave) Carr, Marjorie (Jack) Tanner, Roberta (Jim) Patterson, Ken, and Watson McTeer, and nephews, Clifford Tanner, Robert Carr, and niece, Laurie Tanner.

John worked for the Ministry of Transportation for 35+ years as a mechanic, then as a vehicle inspector, then enjoyed retirement, travelling, camping, woodworking and antique cars.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Sunday, November 23, 2025, from 1:00-4:00 p.m., with words of remembrance being shared at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at a later date at Douglas Hill Cemetery.
