Alvin passed suddenly on Sunday, November 16th in his 89th year, doing what he loved on the farm. Born in Lion’s Head, Alvin James Stewart of Owen Sound, was a gentle, steadfast anchor to his family and a loyal friend in his community. Always intentional and attentive, he built incredible machines and wove intricate ties to family and friends.
His marriage to the late Elaine Stewart (nee Lougheed) embodied love and devotion throughout, and beyond, their 60 years of marriage. Alvin was an involved and loving father of Connie, Steven (Kit), Ian, and Paul (Kim); proud grandpa of Ryan (Anne), Kaylie, Cassidy (Stephanie), Erin (Gavin), Gillian (Zack), Brady, Brandon and Calvin; and adored great grandpa of Kenzie, Henry and Heath.
A dear brother of Ainsley, Morgan (Linda), Janet (Verd) Mackie and brother-in-law of Connie (nee Milne) Stewart, Steve Donnelly, Kyle (Cindy) Lougheed and Edith Borden. Alvin will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Alvin is predeceased by parents Harold and Jean (nee Rydall) Stewart, parents-in-law Marion (nee McKenzie) and Harold Lougheed, brothers Harv and Allan, brothers-in-law Dwayne, Durwin, Brian, Bevan, and sisters-in-law Lorna, Beth (Williamson), Eileen (Ringel), Kay (Bridge), and Lois (Clifford).
Visitation will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, on Wednesday November 26, 2025, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Alvin’s life will be held at the funeral home on Thursday November 27th, 2025, at 11 a.m. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be livestreamed from www.woodfuneralhome.ca, and the recorded version will be posted online. Interment will take place in Leith Cemetery, followed by a reception at the funeral home.
