Passed away suddenly at Brightshores Health System, Owen Sound, on Friday, September 26th, 2025. Born in Owen Sound, Ontario on March 14th, 1954, Douglas Warren Barfoot, was in his 72nd year.
Beloved husband of Debbie Barfoot (née Johnston). Loving father of Tabitha Tutin (Matthew) and Justin Barfoot. Cherished grandfather of Jack and Izzy. Dear brother of Ray Barfoot (Heather) and brother-in-law of John Johnston (Pat), Wade Johnston (Sue), Sharron Johnston, and Ann Livingston (Mark). Doug will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
Predeceased by his parents Stanley Barfoot and Norma MacArthur (née Hindman), and parents-in-law Delbert and Eileen Johnston and sister-in-law Pat Watts.
Doug, a skilled craftsman, founded D.W.B. Carpentry and, over 40 years, built and renovated countless homes that continue to grace the Grey Bruce landscape. A passionate nature enthusiast, he served as Director of the Sydenham Bruce Trail, sharing his love for the outdoors with the community. Doug and his family later moved to a farm near Lake Charles, where he embraced a self-sustaining lifestyle. He cultivated thriving gardens, raised livestock, hunted, managed forestry, kept bees, and preserved food. Doug’s legacy lives on in the homes he built, the trails he maintained, and the bond he shared with his family and friends.
A come-and-go memorial visitation will be held at Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, 250 14th St. W., Owen Sound, 519-376-7492, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 3 – 5 p.m. Those wishing to make a memorial donation are asked to consider OSHARE.
