Dorothy Laverne Stewart

It is with sadness that we share the passing of our dear aunt and sister, Dorothy Laverne Stewart (nee Bain) on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Summit Place. Born in Lion’s Head on July 28, 1937, Dorothy was in her 89th year.
Dorothy leaves behind her sister Yvonne Martin and her brother Sheldon Bain, her nieces Rhonda Suchomel (George) and Kimberly Waller (Chris), her nephews Tom Hudson (Michelle), Geoff Hudson (Julia), Robert Coultis, Ryan Coultis (Candace) and Steven Marlin (Lucy). She was a great aunt to Brynn, Andrew, Ben, CJ, Carmyn, Matthew, Josh, Rachael, Maya, Michael, Makayla, Kobin, Maria, Mateo, Solomon, River and Wilder. Dorothy will also be missed by her sibling-in-laws Lorraine Bain and Danny Coultis.
Predeceased by her husband Morris, parents Arnold and Laverne (nee Etsell) Bain, sisters Shirley Hudson and Lois Coultis, brother Beverley Bain, brother-in-law Ken Martin, sister-in-law Linda Bain, and Morris’s siblings Norman, William, Stanley, Gordon, John, Bruce, Alan, Harold, Evelen, Marion, Elda and Mae.
Dorothy absolutely loved reading books and newspapers. Having a bit of a sweet tooth, she loved her sweets and always enjoyed a cup of hot tea with milk. Dorothy really cherished the friendships she made throughout her life and loved spending time with her family, especially at Shirley’s cottage or Stewart family reunions at Harrison Park.
A graveside service to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at Eastnor Cemetery, 110 Cemetery Road, Lion’s Head, on Monday, September 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Following the service, a reception will be held at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 202, 6 Hellyer Road, Lion’s Head. Arrangements are entrusted to Brian E. Wood Funeral Home, Owen Sound, 519-376-7492.
