The Durham Hospital Foundation has launched its $1.2 million Minutes to Care campaign to replace the aging X-ray suite at the hospital.
The foundation says the campaign begins with a $100,000 gift from a private donor and will ensure fast, reliable diagnostic care for the community.
They note on their website the Durham Hospital has some of the shortest emergency room wait times in Ontario, saying on average, patients are seen within 42 minutes.
They say over 4,500 X-rays are performed there each year, adding, “This upgrade is essential to keeping diagnostic and emergency care fast, reliable, and close to home.”
The foundation adds, “This is more than an investment in technology. It is a commitment to rural healthcare, to patient dignity, and to protecting essential hospital services for the people of West Grey and beyond.”
They say donations will help ensure the Durham Hospital can continue to meet the needs of emergency, inpatient, and outpatient care, support its physicians with the equipment they need to provide accurate, high-quality care, help keep their emergency department and diagnostic imaging services viable for the long term and reinforce Durham Hospital’s role as a trusted and essential care centre in the rural region.
To help raise funds, the Foundation is hosting Thunderstruck, an AC/DC tribute concert, on September 27 at the Neustadt Arena. Tickets are $40, with proceeds supporting the campaign.
The Durham Hospital is open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. It is one of two hospitals in Grey Bruce that has seen service reductions in recent years. Durham’s ten inpatient beds were moved in 2024 by South Bruce Grey Health Centre to the hospitals in Walkerton and Kincardine.
