The Wardens of Grey and Bruce Counties are reacting to the termination of a number of Board of Health members.
The Board of Health oversees Public Health Grey Bruce.
Grey Warden Andrea Matrosovs and Bruce Warden Luke Charbonneau say in a joint statement, “In recent days municipal representatives on the Board of Health received letters from the Chair advising of the termination of all municipal appointees to the Board effective August 6, 2025.”
It’s currently unclear why many of the board members received termination letters.
The wardens continue, “Supporting healthy communities is a long-standing priority for the councils of Bruce and Grey counties. Public Health plays an important role in the well-being of the thousands of residents who call Bruce and Grey counties home, and the millions who visit each year.”
Charbonneau and Matrosovs say, “Bruce and Grey County want to support the public health needs of our residents. We want to work collaboratively with the Ministry on the best solutions for residents.”
They add, “We understand and share the public’s concern and as we learn more about these decisions, Bruce and Grey counties will be transparent with the public.”
The Board of Health most recently consisted of: Georgian Bluffs Mayor Sue Carleton, Meaford Deputy Mayor Shirley Keaveney, West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles, Bruce County Deputy Warden Don Murray, South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Jay Kirkland, Kincardine Mayor Kenneth Craig, Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs, and Provincial Appointees Helen-Claire Tingling, Beverly Wilkins, Chad Richards, Nick Saunders.
The board now listed on the Health Unit’s website is:
Chair – Nick Saunders (Provincial Appointee, Resident of Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation)
Vice-Chair – Chad Richards (Provincial Appointee for Bruce County)
Helen-Claire Tingling (Provincial Appointee for Grey County)
Beverly Wilkins (Provincial Appointee Grey County)
A quick search of neighbouring boards of health like Huron-Perth and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph and Simcoe-Muskoka shows their elected officials remain in their online lists of board members, unlike Grey-Bruce.
