Grey Highlands is naming Doug Harrison its Senior of the Year.
Municipal council presented the award to Harrison during its meeting last week.
Mayor Paul McQueen says Harrison has been deeply involved in Priceville and the larger community, including maintaining Stothart Hall, preparing the outdoor rink through the winter, and planting flowers at the village sign and the cenotaph.
Harrison has also played an active role in organizing a number of events including Canada Day and Remembrance Day.
He has served on a number of local committees like the MacNiel Cemetery Board, the Community Safety Committee, and the Community Development Advisory Committee.
McQueen says Harrison reminds us of what community spirit looks like.
“He’s someone who shows up, who gives back, and who does it all not for recognition, but out of a deep commitment to the people and place he loves. We’re honoured to recognize him as our 2025 Senior of the Year,” says McQueen.
Harrison says he is humbled receiving the award.
“I have to in all due process, thank our volunteers. Our volunteers in Priceville are amazing. We wouldn’t be able to accomplish the things we do there without them, whether its the ice rink, Canada Day, the cleanup day, or Remembrance services, it’s a very rewarding experience I think for everyone,” says Harrison.
The annual Senior of the Year Award recognizes residents aged 65 and older who embody community spirit through volunteering, leadership, and service.
