A Wiarton man has won $100,000 in the lottery.
A release from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says playing Encore paid off for Donald Standen of Wiarton.
They say he matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in exact order in the March 1st, 2023 Lotto 6/49 draw.
Standen, a father of two and grandfather of one, says he always plays Encore.
“I decided to stop for gas on my way home from Guelph when I checked my ticket. I was very surprised,” says Standen in a statement, adding, “I called my wife to tell her about the win and she didn’t believe me at first!”
Standen says the win feels good, “I’m happy. We will be able to do things we’ve been holding back on,” he smiled. “It gives us a bit of freedom.”
He says he is thinking about purchasing a boat and plans to put his win away for now.
Encore can be played in conjunction with most lottery games for an extra $1. There is an Encore draw every day.
The winning ticket was purchased at Circle K on Main Street in Sauble Beach.
