The Township of Georgian Bluffs is advising residents to be on the lookout for coyotes following recent sightings.
The township says the animals are a natural part of the environment of Georgian Bluffs, but are naturally wary of humans and will seek to stay hidden.
Director off Community Services Niall Lobley says, “during late winter and spring, coyotes are more active and can be more visible, than at other times of year as they look for mates and establish territories.”
To avoid contact with the animals, the municipality recommending ensuring your trash is covered and any pet food is kept indoors, never feed the wildlife, remove fallen produce from yards and gardens, and always supervise your pets when outdoors by following leash laws.
It’s recommended if you see a coyote, do not approach it and stay calm, while also making yourself look as large as you can and make noise.
If a wild animal is causing an immediate threat, contact the OPP at 519-784-7827.
