The goals were coming in threes for the Owen Sound Attack in Windsor.
Colby Barlow and Servac Petrovsky each scored hat tricks as the Attack doubled up the Windsor Spitfires 6-3 in Ontario Hockey League action at the WFCU Centre Wednesday night.
The Attack (14-7-0-0) never trailed in the game, and broke it open with four goals in the second period.
Petrovsky scored the lone goal of the first 1:55 after the opening face-off, having a puck bounce to him in the high slot and then wiring a shot past Mathias Onuska to make it 1-0.
Barlow, who also had an assist in the game to finish with four points, made it a 2-0 game with a power play marker at 6:50 of the second period. Then off the ensuing face-off, Petrovsky skated down the left-wing and found himself in a 2-on-1 situation. He elected to shoot high, beating Onuska to make it 3-0. That goal came just nine seconds after Barlow’s.
Less than two minutes later Barlow potted his second of the night to stretch the Attack lead to 4-0.
The Spitfires got on the board with 5:38 to go in the second. Colton Smith rushed down the left-wing and through a cross-crease pass that was tipped into an open net by Ethan Miedema.
But the Attack would get that one back before the period was out. Barlow completed his hat trick with 44 seconds to play, putting a shot past Onuska in tight to make it 5-1.
Windsor pressured in the third period, outshooting Owen Sound 17-6. Joey Constanzo also entered the game in relief of Onuska to the start third.
Antony Cristoforo scored at 5:12 to bring the Spitfires within three. And then Miedema potted his second of night – and third point – at 8:38 on the power play, deflecting a Nick DeAngelis point shot past Chenard to make it 5-3.
A Spitfires bench minor for too many men on the ice at 18:12 ended the threat – sending the Attack to a late power play. Petrovsky completed his hat trick with 28 seconds to play, scoring an empty-netter.
Chenard made 30 saves in the win, while Onuska stopped 17 taking the loss. Constanzo stopped all five shots he faced.
Windsor outshot Owen Sound 33-28 while going 2 for 4 on the power play; the Attack finished 2 for 2.
