Pumpkinfest made its return to Port Elgin this past weekend with a more normal format.
Pumpkinfest Marketing Coordinator Anne-Marie Collins says the event, which ran from Oct. 1 to the 2, drew a large crowd after operating under a hybrid format the previous year due to Covid.
“The weather was awesome, the crowds came out, it was so nice to get as really as close as back to normal as we could,” says Collins.
Collins adds this year they also had their weigh off of the largest pumpkins.
She says the winning pumpkin on Saturday belonged to Dave McQuay of Delhi and came in at 1, 888.5 pounds. The winner on Sunday was Jeff Warner of Englehart, and he brought in a 1, 738 pound pumpkin.
In addition to the weigh off, Collins says this year’s event also featured a kid carnival, which included pony rides, as well as carnival rides, vendors, a craft show, and a two-day car show.
“The main street and all the side streets had cars everywhere they could put them. I am sure our local car enthusiasts really enjoyed having the car show back up and running,” says Collins.
Collins says they have been hearing from people about how happy they were to be able to return to Pumpkinfest with a more normal model.
“Being on the ground and having everyone there again, we had the entertainment stage back up and running, so there was live entertainment. It was really a wonderful time to see everyone come out and enjoy our fall in Saugeen Shores,” says Collins.
